Lauritz Knudsen Electrical and Automation has partnered with Orion Racing India, the Formula Student team from K J Somaiya School of Engineering, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, to support emerging engineering talent and strengthen India’s electric mobility ecosystem. The collaboration reflects Lauritz Knudsen’s commitment to encouraging innovation and technical capability at the grassroots level. By working closely with students involved in designing and building electric vehicle platforms, the company aims to foster early exposure to clean mobility technologies and real-world engineering challenges. As electric mobility continues to gain momentum in India, industry experts believe that building a strong talent pipeline will be critical to sustaining long-term growth. Through this partnership, Lauritz Knudsen is helping create opportunities for students to experiment, innovate and develop skills that will play a key role in the country’s evolving mobility and energy landscape. Orion Racing India brings nearly two decades of experience in student motorsport, regularly competing in Formula Student competitions across India and internationally. In 2019, the team transitioned from internal combustion prototypes to electric race cars, aligning its work with the global shift toward sustainable mobility. The team’s electric race car acts as a practical learning platform, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in power electronics, battery systems, vehicle dynamics, safety and energy management. Speaking about the collaboration, Naresh Kumar, COO of Lauritz Knudsen Electrical and Automation, said the company believes meaningful change in electric mobility begins with encouraging young engineers to experiment and innovate early in their careers. Dr. Ukrande, Director of K J Somaiya School of Engineering, highlighted that Orion Racing India has built a strong legacy in Formula Student competitions, with each batch of students building upon the experience and knowledge of previous teams. Through this engagement, Lauritz Knudsen aims to strengthen hands-on engineering education while contributing to the development of skills required for India’s future electric mobility ecosystem.
