Mercedes-Benz VLE Electric Van Revealed With 700 KM Range
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new VLE electric luxury van with over 700 km range and seating for up to eight passengers.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the next generation electric V-Class, introducing the new VLE. The model is the first electric van based on the brand’s upcoming VAN.EA platform and promises a driving range of more than 700 km on a single charge.
The design of the VLE takes inspiration from the Vision V Concept that was showcased earlier. The electric van will be offered in two body styles. The standard version measures 5,309 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,342 mm, while the long wheelbase version stretches to 5,484 mm with a 3,517 mm wheelbase.
At the front, the VLE features a prominent grille with an illuminated surround along with dual LED headlamps that incorporate Mercedes’ signature star shaped lighting elements. A full width LED light bar further enhances the futuristic design. At the rear, the van features a large windscreen and a distinctive lighting design with LEDs forming an inverted U shaped outline across the rear fascia.
Like the conventional V-Class, the VLE gets sliding rear doors for easy access to the cabin. Inside, the electric van features a modern dashboard layout with a three spoke steering wheel, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster and a 14 inch central touchscreen. Buyers can also opt for an additional 14 inch passenger display.
Mercedes-Benz is offering two centre console layouts for the VLE. Customers can choose a compact console or a full floor console that extends between the front seats.
The electric van offers three rows of seating as standard and can accommodate up to eight passengers. Buyers can also opt for Mercedes’ Grand Comfort seats, which offer reclining and massage functions and feature individual wireless charging pads.
Rear passengers are treated to a large 31.3 inch roof mounted panoramic screen connected to a 22 speaker Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos support.
Powering the VLE is a 115 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed range of more than 700 km. The VLE 300 variant uses a single electric motor mounted on the front axle producing 268 BHP. The more powerful VLE 400 4Matic features dual electric motors, one on each axle, producing a combined output of 387 BHP.
The VLE supports ultra fast charging of up to 300 kW, which can add up to 355 km of range in just 15 minutes. The electric van also features air suspension with self levelling and rear axle steering for improved comfort and maneuverability.
