Nissan Terrano PHEV Concept Could Come To India As Rugged SUV
Nissan has showcased the Terrano PHEV concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, previewing a rugged ladder-frame SUV that could be launched in India.

Nissan has taken the wraps off the Terrano PHEV concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, giving a glimpse of a rugged new ladder-frame SUV that could eventually make its way to the Indian market. The concept previews Nissan’s future direction for premium off-road-focused SUVs with electrified powertrains. The Terrano PHEV concept features a bold and muscular design that clearly emphasizes its rugged character. At the front, the SUV gets a flat fascia with futuristic signature LED lighting and illuminated Nissan branding stretching across the nose. The chunky bumper, squared-off wheel arches and upright proportions further enhance its hardcore SUV appeal. From the side, the Terrano PHEV concept showcases a strong boxy silhouette along with large off-road-ready tyres and aggressive body cladding. Nissan has also equipped the SUV with a roof rack featuring an integrated ladder, adding to its expedition-style appearance. At the rear, the SUV gets split LED tail-lamps along with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, reinforcing its tough off-road identity. According to reports, the production-spec version of the Terrano PHEV is expected to debut globally next year. The SUV is likely to share its underpinnings with the Nissan Frontier Pro and Dongfeng Z9 pickup trucks. This means the production model could feature multiple powertrain choices, including plug-in hybrid technology. For India, Nissan is expected to prioritize the PHEV version considering the growing demand for electrified SUVs and stricter emission regulations. The SUV could potentially be manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai facility, where the brand still retains production allocation despite no longer holding a direct stake in the plant. The facility has an annual production capacity of 5 lakh units, with half reserved for Nissan operations. If launched in India, the Nissan Terrano PHEV would enter the premium SUV segment and rival models like the Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster and Skoda Kodiaq. The addition of a plug-in hybrid powertrain could help the Terrano stand out in a segment that is still dominated by conventional diesel SUVs. Apart from the Terrano PHEV, Nissan is also planning to expand its premium SUV lineup in India with the introduction of the globally popular Nissan Patrol. With these future launches, Nissan appears to be preparing a stronger push into the higher-end SUV market in the country. source - https://www.autocarindia.com/car-news/nissan-terrano-phev-concept-based-suv-could-launch-in-india-439612
