Renault Duster To Get More Affordable Automatic Variants In India

Renault Duster To Get More Affordable Automatic Variants In India
Renault has confirmed plans to introduce more affordable automatic versions of the Duster, addressing a key gap in the SUV's lineup and making two-pedal convenience accessible to more buyers.

Renault is preparing to expand the Duster range in India with more affordable automatic variants, a move that could significantly broaden the appeal of its midsize SUV. The announcement was confirmed by Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise during a recent media interaction. According to Deblaise, Renault has received consistent feedback from customers seeking a more accessible automatic option. Currently, buyers looking for an automatic Duster have to opt for the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which places the entry price considerably higher than manual variants. "We will introduce less expensive versions of an automatic," Deblaise stated, highlighting the gap between the entry-level 1.0-litre turbo-petrol manual variants and the existing automatic models. At present, the Duster's automatic lineup is available in four variants priced between ₹14.49 lakh and ₹18.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The introduction of a lower-priced automatic version could make the SUV more competitive against rivals that offer automatic transmissions across a wider range of trims. Renault has not yet revealed whether the new automatic option will be paired with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or if the company plans to launch a more affordable version of the existing 1.3-litre turbo-petrol DCT. Both possibilities remain under consideration. The move comes at a time when automatic transmission demand continues to rise in India, especially among urban buyers seeking convenience in heavy traffic conditions. By introducing more accessible automatic variants, Renault could strengthen the Duster's position in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment. More details regarding the new variants, pricing and launch timeline are expected in the coming months.
