Renault Triber to Get Turbo Petrol Engine and CNG Option Soon

Renault is preparing a major update for the Renault Triber, with plans to introduce a turbocharged petrol engine along with a factory-fitted CNG option. The updated model is expected to be launched around September 2026, bringing a much-needed boost in performance and versatility to the popular compact MPV. The biggest highlight of this update is the introduction of Renault’s 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, currently seen in the Kiger. This engine produces 99 BHP and 160 Nm of torque, which is a significant upgrade over the existing naturally aspirated unit. It is expected to be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic, making the Triber more appealing for both city and highway driving. Alongside the turbo variant, Renault is also working on a CNG version of the Triber, aimed at improving running costs and expanding its appeal among budget-conscious buyers. Interestingly, the CNG setup is expected to use the same turbocharged engine, although it remains unclear whether the automatic transmission will be available with this variant. Underpinning these updates is Renault’s newly showcased Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP). This architecture is an evolution of the CMF-A platform and has been specifically engineered to support modern powertrains, including turbo-petrol and CNG configurations. The platform also allows for dual-cylinder CNG tanks to be packaged under the boot floor, ensuring minimal compromise on practicality—a key strength of the Triber. With these updates, Renault aims to strengthen the Triber’s position in the highly competitive MPV segment by offering a better balance of performance, efficiency, and practicality. The addition of a turbo engine will particularly address one of the key limitations of the current model, which has often been criticised for lacking power. Once launched, the updated Triber will continue to stand out as one of the most versatile 7-seater options in the affordable segment, now backed by improved engine options and enhanced usability.
