Suzuki Burgman 400 Showcased in India, Launch Under Consideration
Suzuki has showcased the Burgman 400 maxi-scooter in India, hinting at a possible premium scooter launch in the future.
Suzuki Motorcycle India has showcased the Suzuki Burgman 400 at the 2026 Suzuki Matsuri event in Mumbai, indicating that the brand is evaluating the potential for a premium maxi-scooter in the Indian market.
While there is no official confirmation regarding its launch, the presence of the Burgman 400 at a public event suggests that Suzuki is actively gauging customer interest in the higher-capacity scooter segment, which is still relatively niche in India.
The Burgman 400 sits significantly above the Suzuki Burgman Street currently sold in India, both in terms of size and performance. It is powered by a 400cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, paired with a CVT automatic transmission, making it more suitable for long-distance touring and highway cruising compared to conventional scooters.
In terms of dimensions, the Burgman 400 is a large machine, measuring 2,235 mm in length with a wheelbase of 1,580 mm, giving it strong road presence. It also tips the scale at 218 kg, which places it closer to entry-level motorcycles rather than typical scooters.
Design-wise, the maxi-scooter follows a premium and practical approach. It features dual headlamps, a tall windscreen, wide floorboard and a stepped seat, all of which are designed to offer a comfortable riding experience, especially for long rides. The upright riding posture, thanks to raised handlebars, further enhances comfort.
On the hardware front, the Burgman 400 comes equipped with a telescopic front fork and link-type rear suspension, ensuring a balanced ride. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, offering better stopping power compared to smaller scooters.
If Suzuki decides to launch the Burgman 400 in India, it will enter a largely untapped segment with minimal direct competition. However, pricing will play a crucial role, as the scooter is expected to be positioned as a premium lifestyle product rather than a mass-market commuter.
The showcase signals Suzuki’s intent to explore new segments and expand its portfolio beyond conventional scooters, especially as customer preferences in India continue to evolve toward more premium and performance-oriented products.
